Latest News

Welcome all again to the next instalment of “Stars In Stripes”. Well July is over and the reps season has come to a close and so have many of our local competitions. But they’re all kicking off again so we need to shake off those holiday cobwebs and start putting in the effort again. Let’s not slacken off,but put in the effort to prove the fact that Hornsby is one of the best Referee Programs in the state.

Remember that if you wish to receive more challenging games outside your normal nights then please get in touch with Vicki and she’ll do her best to see that you get a chance to gain more experience in tougher games. These games are tightly monitored and you would be partnered with a more senior referee to ensure you have an easy transition. You need to let us know if you’re interested!!

A new grading matrix will be introduced in the coming weeks to allow the referee coaching panel and yourselves to better monitor your progress. The new matrix will help you gauge what needs to be covered for you to get to the next level. But please remember that we still only do upgrades 3 times a year, and that’s to emphasise the point that your grade is of little importance
in the greater scheme of things! So work hard ALL the time and you will be rewarded.

Report from 2005 Country Junior Championships
On the June long weekend Andrew Cannings, Ryan Brandau and Simon Cosier arranged to meet at Thornleigh McDonalds, after waiting some time
for Ryan to arrive Simon frantically began ringing numbers to figure out where the hell Ryan was.

It turns out that Ryan decided to meet at Waitara
Macca's rather than Thornleigh. Never fear though, the ever reliable Simon and Andrew travelled to Waitara to pick up Mr Brandau who was patiently
awaiting Simon's arrival. Hiding the frustrating expression, Simon greeted Ryan and the crew were off to Maitland to participate in the 2005 Junior Country Championships.

Co-Hornsby official, Jarrod Greedy officiant as always, checked in with Simon early on Sat morning. Jarrod being well prepared for the weekend arrived in downtown Maitland the evening before and
was at the stadium calmly sorting out rosters and coordinating logistics before the commencement of the games.

The games were underway and Simon and his treasured crew of Hornsby referees arrived not long after, in plenty of time before their pre game duties
for their first game.

Congratulations to the following referees on the achievements at state junior and senior finals ‘05

Alex Cherry: Referee U12 Boys 2nd Round Final

Work in the Pipeline

You all work so hard to make Hornsby‘s referee program look good that the referees panel has been going to great lengths to provide you with the best
resources to help you improve.

To go along with the high level of referee coaching available to you and the fantastic facilities that we have, the referee coaching panel is working on producing a Hornsby
Referees Jacket similar to the official’s jumper that court supervisors wear.

Also, we are working on getting funds to secure a video camera to produce DVDs of referees during reps season and during local competition games so you can see
how you really look on court and gain a better understanding of the principles that the referee coaches teach you.

So keep your eyes and ears open for news about these exciting developments in the
near future.
